Newcastle Sport
The North East has an abundance of sporting activities to
satisfy the requirements of most people. Whether you want
to take in a football match play a round of golf, watch athletics
or go walking in scenic surroundings, this area of the UK
provides plenty of opportunities to indulge in your favourite
sporting pastime.
Newcastle plays host to the Gateshead International Stadium
where international athletics events are held on a regular
basis, and in September the famous Newcastle half marathon
is held in the city. Newcastle is also home to the Newcastle
Falcons the Premier League rugby union club. Ice Hockey is
also played at the Metro Radio Arena.
Of course Newcastle is most famous for it's football team
Newcastle United who play in the English Premier League and
over the years many famous players have worn the black and
white stripes of the "magpies". They play at St.
James's Park and the ground is within easy commuting distance
of the city centre.
Horse Racing is also held throughout the year at Gosforth
Park and both Flat and Steeplechase racing is held here.
If golf is your passion, the North East has a host of golf
courses both links and Parkland and they provide a serious
test of golf for any enthusiastic golfer. One of the most
famous courses is Slaley Hall which over the years has hosted
a few of the PGA tour competitions. Excellent deals are available
throughout the year to stay and play golf in this historic
house.
Cycling is also very popular and there are many areas to
explore on a bike in this breathtakingly beautiful part of
Northumberland.
